It was Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and the Province of Canada. who enacted the British North American Act of 1867, now known as Constitution Act of 1867. On July 1st, 1867, the three parties became a single country named Dominion of Canada.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Upon Confederation in 1867, the name Canada was officially adopted for the new Dominion, which was commonly referred to as the Dominion of Canada until after World War II. The title of was given because it was semi-independent, which meant Canada was still under the crown of the British Empire. However, the BNA Act of 1867 gave federal independence that defined the operations of the government, including its federal, justice, and taxation system. Sir John A. Macdonald became the first Prime Minister of Canada but the executive power was still held by the Queen, represented by the Governor General.<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The three colonies were then split into four provinces: Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, and Ontario, with Ottawa serving as its capital city.<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This year, we celebrate the 147th birthday of our great nation. In that time, Canada has grown into a country with 10 provinces and 3 territories, but it all started with a single constitution on July 1st. 1867.<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
