With the two-day Climate Summit of The Americas <\/span><\/span>winding up today at the Fairmont Royal York, we at Simply Laundry wanted to take a closer look at what it means to truly be environmentally friendly. Is ‘being green’ a legitimate possibility in today’s world or is it just a fad that will run its course soon? <\/span><\/p>\n

Here are a few easy ways you, as a beginner, can do your part for the environment<\/a><\/span><\/span>:<\/a><\/p>\n

    Ditch the running faucet<\/a>:<\/a> The running faucet is something most of us are so accustomed to that we don’t even realise we do it! Close your faucet when you brush, wash your face, or do the dishes. The earth will thank you! <\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Brush up your Closetiquette:<\/span> Change the way you see your closet; instead of relying on fast fashion, resole and re-heel your shoes, redye your clothes, and create new clothes from old ones. A tattered pair of jeans double up as super trendy capri pants or shorts. Don’t forget to recycle hangers with your drycleaners (yes, we strongly support reusable hangers!) <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Go digital:<\/span> Enrolling for paperless billing has never been easier. Use a digital diary, book your concert, movie and air tickets online and invest in an e-reader for the bookworm in you.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Revamp your coffee routine: <\/span>Think before you reach for multiple napkins, consider not using a sleeve unless absolutely necessary, or invest in a reusable coffee travel mug if you are on the move. For bonus points, why don’t you encourage your local coffee shop to use reusable steel stirrers? Or get creative, raw spaghetti sticks can also do the trick!<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n

    Tackle global warming:<\/span> Take control of the global warming situation in your apartment; set your thermostat a few degrees higher in the summer and a few degrees lower in the winter. Invest in a fan for the winter as well. Circulating hot air around your home can lower your heating bills.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    MUST DO IF YOU AREN’T ALREADY: This is a no-brainer. Turn off lights and unplug appliances like computers when you leave the house and while asleep. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
