Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are challenging pests to get rid of, since they hide so well and reproduce so quickly. If you do have bedbugs, it is strongly recommended that you hire a professional pest control operator.

Professional pest control operators can use a variety of tools to control bedbugs. These include liquid insecticide sprays, aerosol insecticide sprays, insecticidal dusts, diatomaceous earth, pressurized carbon dioxide snow, and steam and heat treatments. In some cases, infested mattresses and box springs will need to be discarded. Since bed bugs can disperse throughout a building, it may also be necessary to inspect adjoining rooms and apartments.

Laundering is an important step in the treatment of bed bugs, and keeps your clothes, linens, curtains, and others bug free. Simply Laundry extends its services to you by taking full care of this step, and ensuring that all items follow a strict process to ensure that its completely bug free.

Treatment for Bed Bugs

The Toronto Bed Bug Project in conjunction with the Structural Pest Management Association of Ontario and its members has developed a set of guidelines for the treatment of bed bugs in multi unit dwellings for Pest Management Professionals (PMP).

Before treatment:

- Remove the mattress and place it in isolation
- Vacuum the mattress thoroughly. Watch out for holes in the mattress.
- Vacuum all the are as that are touchy to the mattress including frame, floor, post etc.
- Discard the vacuum bag in a tightly sealed garbage bag
- All the clothing should be removed from dressers and be put in isolated place.
- Technician treats the area to avoid any future infestation of bed bugs.
- Stay out of the treated area for three to four hours after the treatment ends.
- Any one who is allergic, pregnant, asthma affected should stay out of the entire process
- Filtration and aeration equipment should be turned back on six hours after treatment

Laundering

All the clothing items must be placed in the garbage bags. Place all the clothes directly from the bags to washing machine. It is important to use hot water as hot water is effective than cold water in killing bed bugs. Once the cycle is complete, the clean clothes must be placed in new bags and put away from the treatment process. The garbage bags should be discarded as they may contain bed bugs. Put the clothes in the dryer for a minimum of half an hour with high heat. If possible, for severe infestations, water-soluble bags should be used to collect sheets and clothing and put directly into the wash. Some clothing, such as suits, ties etc may require dry cleaning. One wouldn’t take chances with their kids.

Closets

All storage spaces including material wardrobes are to be exhausted. Clean articles ought to be set in the dryer on high heat for at least 30 minutes. Every single dirtied article should be washed in boiling hot water and after that dried at high heat. Laundromat dryers may have lower heat settings and may not warm up to 60 C. For good results, a full cycle ought to be utilized.

Couches and seats

All seat covers, tosses and cushions must be washed preceding treatment.

Discarding furniture & bedding

It is not recommended to discard the infested furniture and bedding. The new ones have an equally good chance of infesting the bedding and furniture again.

If the furniture and bedding cannot be treated, the discarding must be done with utmost care. If due diligence is not followed, the bed bugs might spread to other parts of the apartments or house.Should you decide to throw out the bed bug infested furniture wrap all the units in a plastic bag and dispose the bag carefully.
