Energy Vampires are sucking your money out your pockets. Beware!
They have been active and are growing in numbers with every additional devices and appliances we purchase. So what constitutes an Energy Vampire? They are any devices and appliances that are on “stand-by” mode such as microwaves, toasters, digital cable boxes, laptop, gaming consoles, and desktop computers; the listed are the top 5 Energy Vampires. Although these appliances are “off”, they suck up energy to keep them on stand-by mode to be used at your convenience.
Recommendations:
1. UNPLUG
Do it the old fashioned way, unplug all electronics that aren’t being used, preferably those that are not used frequently and have a quick boot-up time.
2. POWER STRIPS/BARS
Power bars are the upgraded version of extension cords, they have a circuit breaker (switch) to interrupt the electrical current from being used by Energy Vampires. This works well for the living room and office because devices including speakers, screens, printers, and any other peripherals can be plugged in a single power bar to be “unplugged” at a flick of a switch.
3. UPGRADE
Old devices and appliances are overall less efficient when in use and on stand-by mode. Throw them out, and buy devices that are ENERGY STAR certified. Enjoy the improved functionality and lower energy consumption.
Energy Vampires definitely unknowingly drain money out of your pockets, but in your household, a greedier monster lurks within, it demand both time and money: the washing and dryer machine. Simply Laundry to the rescue!
