Less than 40 days until the 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games opening ceremonies, the long wait is almost over. The month-long event runs from July 10- 26 and the Parapan Am Games will ensue August 7-15. The semi-international athletic event will feature both decorated and prospective athletes from the Americas and Caribbean. Toronto will be hosting close to 7,000 athletes and many more tourists and affiliates. Simply Laundry Team is so excited that the Pan Am Games are taking place in their home city. We will definetly be out cheering and thought we will add a list of all our proud Canadian athletes.

 

 

Who should the Canadians watch for at the upcoming Pan Am Games?

 

Pan Am Games

Ryan Cochrane (Swimming): Vancouver, BC native. A two-time Olympic medalist in 1500M Freestyle, winning silver and bronze in 2012 and 2008 respectively.

Michelle Li (badminton): Markham, ON native. The reigning 2011 Pan Am Games gold medalist in Singles and Doubles (with Alex Bruce), finished fourth at the 2012 London Olympics.

Rosie MacLennan (Trampoline): King City, ON native. 2012 London Olympic gold medalist and the reigning 2011 Pan Am Games gold medalist for the Individual event.

Mo Zhang (Table Tennis): Vancouver, BC native. The reigning 2011 Pan Am Games gold medalist in Women’s Singles, and qualified for the 2012 London Olympics.

Damian Warner (Decathlon): London, ON native. Gold medalist at 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games, and a bronze medalist at 2013 Moscow World Championships. Decathlon competitors are often referred to as the “World’s Greatest Athletes” because Decathlon combines 10 Track and Field events.

 

Parapan Am Games

Benoit Huot (Swimming): Longueuil, Quebec native. One of the most decorated Paralympic athletes, with medals from the 2000 Sydney, 2004 Athens, 2008 Beijing, and 2012 London Olympics.

Tracey Ferguson (Basketball): Holland Landing, Ontario native. At the age of 40, she is expected to compete again at the Parapan Am Games. She holds numerous gold medals in the Paralympics and World Championships, most recent being the 2014 World Championships.

Ian Kent (Table Tennis): Eastern-Passage, NS native. One of the oldest competitors at the age of 50, the former able-bodied Table Tennis coach was diagnosed with Dystonia, is now a fierce competitor at the Parapan Am Games, having a gold medal under his belt from the 2011 Guadalajara event.

 

Most of these notable Canadian athletes will be coming to Toronto to defend their gold medals, to show the world the dedication and effort of the athletes, and to be the true ambassadors of the sport and the city.
