July 1st commemorates the signing of the Constitution Act of 1867 when Canada became a country. We celebrate this day by declaring it a statutory holiday so people can spend time with family and friends. Outdoor events such as parades, carnivals, air shows, festivals, and barbeques are held to celebrate Canada’s birthday. In addition, citizenship ceremonies are held nation-wide for new citizens.
