Jeans is usually one of the most liked clothing in a wardrobe for both women and men. Moreover, most people are very particular about their jeans and its fit. Thus, jeans are one item of clothing people are generally willing to squander on. Some designer jeans can be extraordinarily expensive and thus, are take extra care of.

There are several factors that can affect the lifespan of your jeans and knowing how much you’ve spent on a pair, it isn’t out of the ordinary if you want to prolong its life. Here are a few factors that can increase the lifespan of your favorite jeans.

  1. Spot cleaning stains

It is advisable to treat stains individually rather than throwing in jeans for a wash. In this way you will be able to reduce the amount of daily wear and tear of your jeans. Another advantage of cleaning spots individually is that the pair will look fresh and new for a longer time. If you want to treat stains individually, it is advisable to apply the stain with a detergent immediately and after a few minutes clean it with a damp cloth. Then, scrub lightly to remove the stain. In this way, you will be able to get rid of stains without entirely washing it.

  1. Check garment tags

There are different kinds of jeans available in the market and each type of jeans requires different kind of care. For example, if your denim jeans consist of any embellishments they should be dry cleaned rather than washed in the machine. Thus, it is advisable to check garment tags before washing them for the first time. It may consist of special instructions.

  1. Sorting jeans before washing

Most people just wash all of their clothes in the machine at once. It is advisable sort out your clothes before washing them in a machine; if you are washing jeans wash them with similar types of clothing. It will help in preventing friction on jeans or denim fabric which can cause tear and thinning of the jeans. It is also suggested that one should not wash more than four pairs of jeans at a time.

Even in jeans there are different colors so it is advisable to wash them separately. Do not wash whites and dark colored jeans in one load and avoid dye bleeding or transfer of dye from one piece of clothing to another. For example, never wash pastel colored jeans in the same load as black jeans.

  1. Turn the jeans inside out

Before putting jeans in the washing machine, it is suggested to turn the jeans inside out. It will help in reducing color bleeding and will also reduce friction on the outside of the jeans.

  1. Use correct setting of washing machine

Wash your jeans on the delicate/soft setting of your washing machine. It is because lower speed is used and the wash cycle is shorter than the regular one used. Another good thing is that there is a lesser chance of the jeans getting shrunk or stretched out. Always select cold water if you do not want your jeans to shrink.
