There are chances that you will be making some of the most common mistakes that is reducing efficiency of the washing process. These mistakes vary from cramming too many clothes to using the wrong type of detergent.

Some of the common mistakes that people make while laundering are as follows.

  1. Shrinking your clothes

One of the most common mistake people make while doing laundry is using the wrong temperature of water. If you use warm water there are chances that your clothes will shrink and if you use extra cold water there are chances that your clothes may get loose.

  1. Rubbing stains briskly

Another common mistake is rubbing stains and spots very briskly. It is advisable to rub stains and spots slowly. Also, you are supposed to dab the detergent on the stain rather than rubbing the stain. If you rub the stain briskly there are chances that your fabric may get damaged. It is also essential that you treat the stain as quickly as possible; otherwise the stain may leave spots.

  1. Not reading the instructions on tag

Most people think that they know which clothes should be hand washed, machine washed or dry cleaned. So they do not bother reading instructions given on the tag. There are times when you misjudge the fabric used to manufacture your garments and wash it in a wrong way. It can result in your clothes shrinking or its color bleeding and transferring to other apparel. So, you should always read instructions given on the tag.

  1. Putting extra clothes in washing machine

Another common mistake most people make while doing laundry is to stuff the washing machine to get the job done in one round only. But by overloading the machine you fill up all the space, meaning all the clothes move in one big mess. In this way individual garments do not get clean as you would like them to. It also puts extra pressure on the washing machine and can also lead to the machine getting damaged. Therefore, always keep a reasonable gap between the drum and the garments.

  1. Washing with warm water

Most people wash their apparels at a certain temperature which is usually around 40 degrees. But it is not necessary that every piece of clothing should be washed at this temperature. It is because there are some fabrics that can get damaged at 40 degrees like jeans and woolen garments. It is advisable to adjust the temperature according to the kind of fabric you are washing. Moreover, keep the temperature around 30 degrees as it is effective for most of the garments and also helps in saving almost 40% of the energy which is beneficial for the environment and your wallet.
