Leather handbags are popular in the fashion industry. Even though they may be a little more expensive than other handbags, they are worth the investment. It is important to know the right way to clean your leather handbags in order to make them last longer and give them a refreshed look. Given below are some tips for cleaning your leather handbag:

  1. The first step for cleaning any handbag is to use a brush to get rid of dry dust on the exterior surface of the bag. Then empty the pockets and shake the bag upside down in order to remove dirt accumulated on the inside of the bag. Next, use a lint roller to clean the inner lining of the bag to complete the first basic step of cleaning.

  2. The next step is to clean the exterior leather surface of the bag. For this you can use a mixture of lukewarm water and dish soap. Use a towel dipped in the solution to wipe the surface of the bag. Then use another clean moist towel to wipe off the remaining soap residue from the bag. In addition, to complete the cleaning process, use a separate towel to completely dry the bag.

  3. A solution for cleaning can also be created at home by using a few drops of baby shampoo dissolved in a quarter cup of distilled water. All you need to do is transfer this solution into a spray bottle and gently spray on a lint free cloth. The cloth is ready to use for cleaning and you can gently wipe the bag with it to remove stains.

  4. Another method for removing spots on leather is to create a mixture consisting of 1 part of lemon essence with a part of cream of tartar. Use this mixture with a soft fabric cloth and gently rub on the spot to be removed and then wipe it with a dry cloth.

  5. For cleaning ink stains from the leather surface, use a cotton swab dipped in nail polish remover. Gently blot the stain till it disappears and then leave the bag to dry completely.

  6. For getting rid of tough oil stains on the bag, sprinkle a small amount of baking soda on the stain and gently rub it using a slightly moist cloth. Let it sit overnight to absorb the stain and then use a dry cloth to wipe off the remaining powder.

  7. For the metal parts of the handbag, carefully rub metal polish to give the bag a new look. While doing this step, take caution that the polish does not touch the leather to prevent discoloration of the exterior surface of the bag.

The trend of leather handbags is on the rise in the fashion industry. Since leather is a porous material it is important to know the right way to keep your bags clean and maintain them for a longer time. Therefore, these tips serve as a guide to help you clean your leather handbag.
