No matter what you read in the fashion magazines, always remember that there aren’t any hard or fast rules when it comes to fashion. You can wear anything and everything that you feel like. However there are certain things that compliment your figure and look more flattering as compared to others. 

Not everyone has the same body type that is why not everything will look as good on you as it might look on someone else with a different body type. Here is a breakdown of some of the most common body types and how you can dress up accordingly to compliment your figure:

Pear Body Shape:

So this body shape tends to have a wider lower body as compared to the upper body. In simple words, your hips are wider, your waist well-defined and your shoulder compact. If you look at celebs like Katherine Heigl and Kim Kardashian, you will notice similar body traits. The easiest way to look amazing is by focusing more towards your shoulder and emphasizing your waist. Try A-line skirts, square and boat neck tops, strapless dresses, ruffled tops, pointy shoes and jackets that end above the waist. 

Wedge Body Shape:

Another one of the common body shapes include the wedge where the shoulders and chest area tend to be wider than hips and waist. Celebs such as Demi Moore and Naomi Campbell have the inverted triangle/wedge body shape. In order to look more appealing we would suggest that you focus more on your legs as they are the best feature to flaunt and soften up the upper body. Some cool tricks of accentuating your body is by wearing bottoms that are bright, full skirts, wide leg pants, high waist pants/skirts/shorts etc. We would suggest that you skip boat necks and spaghetti strap shirts. 

Rectangle Body Shape:

The rectangle body shape is where the shoulders, waist and hip have the same width. Go for long jackets, sweetheart & scoop neck tops, ruffle & collar shirts, add layers and colorful bottoms. 

Apple Body Shape:

The apple body shape tends to have narrow hips and most the weight above it. With wider shoulders, ribs and back, the best asset to show off for this body type are the legs. Jennifer Hudson, Drew Barrymore and Eva Longoria have this body shape. Your aim should be geared towards drawing away the attention from your waist and elongating the torso and legs. Choosing V-neck shirts will elongate your torso. Wearing a belt at the smallest part of the waistline will also create the illusion of a smaller waist. Wear short skirts, empire dresses and tops, boot cut jeans and monochromatic clothes. 

Hourglass Body Shape:

This one is quite interesting and most desired by many women around the world, your shoulders and hips have the same width while your waist is slimmer. Your curves are what everyone is dying for so you need to flaunt them. Scarlett Johansson, Salma Hayek and Beyonce are some of the celebs who happen to have this body shape. Do not wear baggy clothes to hide those curves, instead wear fitted and wrap dresses to flaunt them. You can wear a belt, skinny jeans, high waist skirt, and thin fabrics to compliment your figure.
